Emarketer confirmed that Meta will surpass Google in total worldwide digital advertising revenue in 2026, projecting $243.46 billion for Meta against $239.54 billion for Google. This marks the first time Google has not held the top position since the modern digital advertising market formed. The shift is being driven entirely by Meta's Advantage+ AI automation platform, which is generating approximately $60 billion in annualized revenue at an average reported return of $4.52 per dollar spent, roughly 22% higher than manually configured campaigns. Meta's overall ad revenue growth rate is running at 24.1% versus Google's 11.9%. The automation has made Meta's platform significantly more accessible to small and mid-sized businesses that previously defaulted to Google's self-serve search products. For AI product marketers, this is a foundational budget allocation signal: the platform that bet earliest and hardest on AI-driven ad buying is now the largest advertising business on the planet. GTM teams that have not built Meta AI creative and Advantage+ campaign competency into their paid growth strategy are systematically underallocating to the highest-growth performance surface in the market. Creative quality, not targeting granularity, is now the primary competitive variable.
