At Google I/O on May 19, Sundar Pichai announced that Google AI Mode has crossed one billion monthly active users, cementing AI-generated search as the default experience for the majority of the world's largest search engine's traffic. Simultaneously, Google AI Overviews now reach 2.5 billion users globally. Research firm iPullRank analyzed 1,922 Google AI Mode responses and found that enabling Personal Intelligence, which connects a user's Gmail and Photos to their AI Mode experience, produced a 46-percentage-point increase in brand visibility: brand mentions climbed from 23.9% to 66.8% for connected accounts, and top-three placements rose from 4.5% to 24.9%. Email proved substantially more influential than visual content, with brands seeded through Gmail appearing in 53.6% of relevant AI Mode responses compared to only 10.5% for brands in connected Photos. For AI product marketers, this finding reframes email marketing entirely: nurture sequences, newsletters, and direct email programs are no longer just direct response channels. They are AI-answer seeding mechanisms. The content your prospects receive in their Gmail inbox directly influences whether your brand surfaces in their AI Mode search results when they are actively evaluating vendors. B2B technology queries that trigger AI search results have expanded from 36% to 82% of all B2B tech queries since early 2025, meaning the AI-intermediated buying journey has effectively become universal in the enterprise software market. GTM teams that have not restructured their content strategy around AI Mode visibility are now missing the default discovery surface for their buyers.
